Tower Block Blues

Grenfell opened the flood doors,
And soon there were scores,
Of high-rise blocks,
With residents in shock,
As they took stock,
And realised they were in hoc,
Their lives in disarray,
With a mortgage still to pay,

It soon became clear,
That the problems were severe,
And the building regulations,
Had complications,
With implications,
And limitations,
Because the original regulations,
Were 300 pages long,
But now just 24 strong,
Another botch,
On Thatcher’s watch,
The London Fire Brigade,
Are seriously afraid,
That developers will evade,
The most stringent regulation,
By a simple alteration,
Of not building too high,
So, the toughest rules will not apply,

The other grave reality,
Is the lack of morality,
And copies of some original plans,
Have disappeared in possible scams,
So that there is no way of comparing,
And swearing,
No ifs or buts,
That there’s been no short cuts

Now, there is a reality,
About the gravity.
And we need a new strategy,
To avoid another catastrophe
