Prince of cats
Oliver flicked his long tabby tail in disgust,
his fun interrupted as he played with a bird.
He wasn’t a cat one could love,
but he accepted respect.
When he died on Bank Holiday Monday
we would have to interred him with dignity.
In the centre of London the task was impossible.
With Reluctance we wrapped him in cardboard
Made a parcel with paper and string
an ignominious end for a prince among felines
put in a dustbin , collected like rubbish.
